Character: Zack Fair

Personality:
Zack's personality could be summarized based on one major principle: that he is a puppy. He is excitable, quick on his feet and actions, but has a tremendous heart of gold.
Angeal, his mentor and friend, once wrote to his mother addressing Zack and described him as having, "zero attention span and restless as a puppy." His accusations were not inaccurate, in fact, and while that only brushes the surface of what lies underneath there is a lot to be said just from that one simple sentence.
Zero attention span. Zack is the type of person who will "jump first and ask questions later" and often has to be reeled back into their main objectives for fear of the man getting too sidetracked. He doesn't enjoy waiting around for something to happen and would much rather shake the beehive to let the bees come to him. Reckless and ambitious as they come, Zack is always willing be the first to jump right into danger for the sake of his own thrills. He's confident with his abilities, and never shies away from letting others see it. Zack enjoys being a bit of a show off and will go out of his way in order to impress someone, or give off a good impression of himself. He prefers to take things head on instead of sneaking around; a very loud and proud attitude and always likes to make an entrance for himself. It's this go-getter attitude that correlates well with the "restless puppy" part.
However, along with that set of traits comes some downsides, too. Zack is incredibly opinionated and never afraid to speak up or say what's on his mind, even to those who are meant to be his superiors. He is quick to express his dislike for something but sometimes he doesn't even have to... his face normally does all the talking. The man wears his heart out on his sleeve. Zack relies heavily on his emotions when it comes to his actions. Even on particular assignments, Shinra made it clear they were hesitant to assign him due to his emotions getting in the way of the missions. He speaks and acts with his heart.
Zack is able to bounce back from his emotions fairly easily though... especially in the face of a girl. During his reunion with Angeal when he is finally confronted with the possibility of fighting his former mentor, Zack refuses and is ultimately knocked down into a church where he first encounters Aerith. Despite having just squared off against a person he truly admired, Zack thanks her for "rescuing him" and offers her a date as a means of repayment. He is a natural flirt, and oftentimes is scolded by other members of SOLIDER to make sure he "doesn't only look at mail from girls".
To be fair, he's a pretty easy-going guy. Normally bright and upbeat, Zack is a bit of an extrovert and happy to engage in conversations to even complete strangers. He doesn't allow himself to get upset for too long, and prefers to have a positive attitude rather than a pessimistic one. He also has the tendency to be rather gullible; easily believing those that he thinks can be trusted. He's been swindled out of a few potions by kids while trying to gather information about his stolen wallet, and to follow leads that may end up at a dead end. Zack believes that most people, on the surface, are trustworthy, and is quick to give trust in return.
The foundation of his personality revolves around a grand quote and running theme of the game, "Embrace your dreams and whatever happens, protect your honor as SOLDIER." He takes pride in his military position and wears it as a badge of honor. To him, SOLDIER is not just a rank- it's a state of mind. It's a position that holds him to a higher standard, and places him in a position of leadership. To him, being a 1st Class SOLDIER is being a hero to people. Aerith, too, describes the SOLDIER brand as "heroes to children, protectors of peace" and he takes that to heart. Zack does whatever he can protect the people around him, Shinra member and civilian alike. This goes even further when, after being experimented on for years along with his friend Cloud, Zack takes on the role as his protector and becomes a fugitive to assure their safety. Honor and dreams is the foundation of his beliefs, and how he navigates both his actions and morals through his life.
It is because of this grand theme that allows Zack to have very simple, attainable dreams. Y'know, like becoming a hero. While some may scoff at him for his wishful thinking, he doesn't take the sentiment lightly and strives towards that goal, making everything he does a stepping stool in that direction. Time and time again he is voicing his dream into reality, and will not shy away from letting others know about his intentions. He is very goal-driven, and once he puts his mind to something it is impossible to stop him until it is completed.
While some may describe him as a bit of a muscle head, which... to be fair, he normally is, he is aware of his position and knows there is a time and a place for everything. He is constantly out to prove that "SOLDIER isn't just a bunch of mindless thugs" and struggles between the line of simply following orders or going with his gut. Zack, overtime, has matured into a more levelheaded individual.
Yet through his experiences of love and loss, he still is able to maintain his cheery demeanor, and the restlessness of the puppy that he once was. As the world and slowly changes around and he uncovers the darkness hidden behind the Shinra Company, he still does his best to be a pillar of support to everyone he encounters, even those deemed as an enemy. Zack has an incredibly kind heart and a strong sense of pride that he is always willing to put on display. He is a protector, a friend, and most of all- a SOLDIER.

Inventory: Most notably, Zack will not have his Buster Sword. Instead he will be arriving with (x2) Hi-Potions, his SOLDIER uniform, and the Fira and Barrier materia.

Zack is a sort of "jack of all trades" when it comes to anything concerning physical strength. With the mako enhancements bestowed by Shinra, he is given the ability to go beyond the limitations of normal human strength and exceeds in both hand-to-hand combat and sword fighting. He is good with his hands and being the country boy that he is, can withstand harder climate temperatures and terrains. He is incredibly durable and is even able to take on whole armies by himself, withstanding both gunfire and weapon attacks. It should also be noted that Zack has the ability to learn and essentially copy the moves of those he has close relations with. This is known as "Digital Mind Wave" and comes in the form of a slot machine within the game mechanics.
Yet considering the limitations of a dreamworld, his physical strength would be drastically reduced. He might not be able to take on full armies, but he's still a Strong Lad™.
In addition to his strength, he is adept with the understanding and knowledge of materia and is able to use a plethora of magic based on which items he has available at the time.

Suitability & Plans:
I woke up one day and decided I was going to choose violence-- AHA BUT NO REALLY Zack is a character I've been wanting to play for a long time, but had never had the courage to do so! Aside from all the drama planned with the cast members, I wanted the opportunity to explore Zack's life outside of Shinra, and what kind of life he would be able to live.
The canon point when I take him from does not have him meeting his end (yet), so having those moments of being allowed to be "free" after years worth of captivity sounded really fun to explore! He is a very friendly, and kinda dorky, guy... so seeing and experimenting with different kinds of CR is really exciting to me!
I want him to be involved with ways he could help out around the community and lend a little muscle, if needed. Maybe create a gym down the road for squat competitions...
